Developer Billing

Understand sale fees, email and redemption usage, monthly minimum offsets, and the distinction between billing and payout.

Billing is not a second sales fee

SoundSync charges one 10% fee on product revenue after discounts and before tax. Payment processing is included for SoundSync-managed checkout. Marketplace-attributed sales use the same fee, not a second marketplace charge.

The $10 monthly minimum is a minimum total of SoundSync charges, not a $10 subscription added to every bill. Sale fees, marketing-email charges, redemption overages, and other applicable SoundSync charges count toward it. If those charges total $7, the minimum adjustment is $3; if they total $12, no minimum adjustment is added. Sale fees already deducted from your proceeds are counted toward the minimum, not charged again on the statement. The shortfall is reconciled after the calendar month closes, not added separately to every partial-month statement.

Usage periods

Each calendar month includes 1,000 marketing emails, then $1.00 per additional 1,000 emails. Transactional emails, including receipts, account security messages, purchase notices, and license or activation messages, are included separately and do not consume the marketing allowance.

Marketing usage counts recipient sends accepted by the email provider. Drafts, scheduling, campaign test sends, recipients skipped for consent or suppression, and provider-rejected sends do not count in the campaign billing path. A message that bounces after provider acceptance still counts as a send.

Overages are billed in started blocks of 1,000 marketing emails at $1 per block. After the 1,000 included sends, sending 1 to 1,000 more costs $1; sending 1,001 to 2,000 more costs $2. Campaigns, automations, and split statement periods share the same monthly count, so continuing within an already billed block does not add another block charge.

Each calendar month includes 10,000 qualifying external redemptions, then $0.005 per redemption. Examples include free-product claims and reseller or other off-portal serial claims. A free BOGO gift included in a paid SoundSync checkout has no external-redemption charge. Ordinary license validation, device activation, and reactivation are not each a new external redemption merely because they call the licensing API.

Monthly included quantities reset on the first day of the calendar month using UTC accounting periods. Unused quantities do not roll over. Campaigns and marketing automations share the marketing-email allowance.

Statements and adjustments

Review the statement period, sale-fee entries, marketing sends, external redemptions, minimum adjustment, refunds, disputes, and payment references. A usage estimate and a finalized statement are not interchangeable.

SoundSync retains its original fee on refunded products. The customer receives the selected products' full paid amount and associated tax without a SoundSync fee deduction. The developer covers actual additional refund charges recorded by the payment provider, not the ordinary processing cost already covered on SoundSync checkout. Accepted affiliate and collaborator shares reverse from the original sale allocation; the developer adjustment uses the original developer share plus the retained SoundSync fee and applicable refund charges. Previously paid amounts are recovered from future earnings, and tax is reconciled separately.

Developers are responsible for confirmed chargeback losses and actual dispute charges recorded by the payment provider. SoundSync covers ordinary processing only for SoundSync-managed checkout, not externally collected reseller or partner payments. An open dispute holds affected funds while its outcome is determined; it is not automatically a final product loss. Original recipient shares and developer obligations are reconciled with the dispute outcome. Returned dispute charges are recorded separately; winning the disputed sale does not mean every provider charge was returned.

Payouts and balances

Developer, affiliate, and collaborator payouts are available twice monthly, on the 1st and 15th of each month, on the same schedule. Each payout covers eligible earnings from the previous period, plus any older unpaid eligible balance, after a minimum 14-day hold. Funds still within the hold carry forward to the next eligible payout date; unresolved adjustments and account restrictions can affect eligibility. Developer payouts use Stripe Connect in USD. The scheduled date is the payment-initiation date, not a guarantee of arrival in a bank or payment account.

There is no SoundSync payout minimum or routine reserve. Small positive USD balances follow the same eligibility and approval process as other payouts. Contact support about an unpaid eligible balance, an account restriction, or the payout destination available for your account.

Plan what moves with your catalog

Product migration is supported for catalog information and supported files. Customer accounts, historical orders/payments, active subscription billing authority, and marketing consent need separate transition arrangements; they are not automatically copied with the catalog. Read the product migration guide for the supported workflow.

Separate billing reports from payment-method management

Billing reports, invoices, statements and their CSV downloads remain available with billing.view and all-products workspace scope. Opening the developer Stripe billing portal additionally requires billing.manage because that portal can change payment methods and billing contact details.

POST /api/developer/billing/portal-session returns 403 developer_team_permission_denied when billing.manage is missing. Existing role definitions stay unchanged: a read-only billing viewer cannot use the editable portal. This is separate from owner-only Stripe Connect payout onboarding, the customer subscription portal and any transfer execution.
