Tax and Merchant-of-Record Operations

Managed-sale tax responsibilities, checkout locations, records, and external sales.

SoundSync handles managed-sale taxes

SoundSync Solutions is the Merchant of Record for purchases completed through SoundSync-managed checkout. SoundSync handles payment processing and applicable sales-tax/VAT calculation, collection, registration, filing, and remittance for those transactions.

The developer does not separately remit the sales tax or VAT collected on a SoundSync-managed transaction. This does not cover the developer's income tax, business registration, or transactions completed by another legal seller.

From checkout to tax records

Checkout uses the customer's location to calculate applicable tax and present the amount before payment. Tax is separate from the pre-tax product revenue used to calculate the 10% SoundSync fee.

SoundSync maintains transaction and liability records to support its registration, filing, and remittance responsibilities. Tax calculation and accounting records are not, by themselves, a tax-registration certificate or proof of a submitted return.

Supported checkout locations

The current checkout configuration supports 53 countries and 117 country/region destinations. This includes US state and District of Columbia destinations, Canadian provinces and territories, and Portugal mainland, Azores, and Madeira rules. Brazil, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand are included in the current country coverage.

The checkout country/region selector is the current operational list, not a claim of universal worldwide coverage. Country and region can provide a configured quote without a postal code; regional fallback rates are estimates rather than a claim of address-exact tax treatment everywhere. Product classification, exemptions, and mixed-cart rules can affect the result.

Exemptions, invoices, and business purchases

For a tax exemption, VAT reverse-charge question, or special invoice requirement, contact support before purchasing. Do not assume a rate calculator establishes eligibility for an exemption or that every business-tax scenario is supported.

Refunded taxes

The refund breakdown includes the tax allocated to the selected products. Confirmed refunds reconcile that tax against the original transaction and tax records, separately from developer earnings and the retained SoundSync fee. A payment still awaiting confirmation or accounting review is not a completed tax correction.

External sale boundary

A sale collected by an external reseller, partner, or another payment system is not a SoundSync-managed sale. SoundSync does not cover that seller's processing fees or act as Merchant of Record for that payment. Approved integrations can still use SoundSync serials, customer claims, licensing, and fulfillment. A referral that completes payment through SoundSync checkout remains a managed sale, including a developer storefront or marketplace purchase.

A consistent quote, renewal, and refund record

Product classifications, supported exemptions, mixed-cart allocations, and location rules feed checkout tax. Subscription renewals use the current configured rules; refunds retain the relevant original allocation. A provider payment total is not a substitute for the saved product/tax split.

Rate review can raise an alert while the last saved rate continues until a reviewed replacement is available. This describes the configured tax operation, not an independent legal certification or a guarantee that every future rate change has been verified.
